The Basalt Rock and the Wine of Stefan Krispel

The basalt rock and the wine of Stefan Krispel are inseparably connected. You can taste the basalt in many of his wines, as the terroir in Vulkanland is basalt-rich.

In a very special way, the wine comes into contact with the basalt during the vinification of the B1. The wine gains its unique character from 24 months of aging in a basalt stone trough and its harmony from 60 months in a large wooden barrel. The result is long-lasting, complex, harmonious, and distinctly mineral. Aged for 7 years, the B1 is an ode to our origin and homeland – the Styrian Vulkanland.

Origin: Styria, Austria

Grape Varieties: This exquisite cuvée is made from three grape varieties:
- 1/3 Sauvignon Blanc, Neusetzberg
- 1/3 Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc), Neusetzberg
- 1/3 Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris), Hochstrandl

Vinification: The production process includes spontaneous fermentation on the skins in large wooden barrels, followed by 24 months of aging in a basalt trough and another 60 months in large wooden barrels. This careful process guarantees a wine of exceptional quality and complexity.

Region: Vulkanland Styria, known for its volcanic soils that impart a unique character to the wines.

Serving Temperature: Best enjoyed at 10 – 12 °C to fully develop the fine aromas and flavor nuances.

Aging Potential: This wine has an impressive aging potential of 15 to at least 20 years, allowing it to develop even more depth and complexity over time.

Alc: 12.5% vol.

Enjoy the rich heritage and craftsmanship of Styria with this outstanding wine, a true testament to the winemaking art of this region.
