Grand Tokaj

Founded by the Hungarian State in 1948, the winery, known as Tokaj Kereskedőház until 2016, was rebranded as Grand Tokaj to emphasize its key role in the Tokaj Wine Region and its global ambitions.

Grand Tokaj is the largest winery in the historic Tokaj-Hegyalja region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, serving as the guardian of national winemaking traditions. With 66 hectares of vineyards, it accounts for 35% of the region’s production and sources grapes from over 1,200 small producers across 1,050 hectares.

Recent developments include a 66,000-hectolitre storage facility opened in 2014 and a bottling plant with a 10 million bottle annual capacity operational since 2017. Further upgrades are planned at Tolcsva and Szegi.

Modernisation has improved vine cultivation. A 2013-2015 survey led to the creation of a GIS to enhance decision-making and grape procurement planning.

Under the guidance of chief oenologist Károly Áts, ‘Winemaker of the Year’ in 2012 and known for his 100-point Essencia, Grand Tokaj produces wines reflecting its renewed spirit. Committed to the region’s uniqueness, our mission is to restore its former glory.
