Winzerfamilie Gregor Schup
With care and a lot of hard work, Gregor V managed to expand the vineyard area from 1.5 hectares to 30 hectares. This allows 200,000 vines to mature under the best conditions.
Currently, the entire family is involved in the operation. The in-house Heurigen restaurant, which offers typical Heurigen specialties as well as upscale cuisine, is cooked by the good soul of the family, Eva Schup. Her love for culinary delight and her courage for new creations make the family’s Heurigen tavern a warm and inviting place.
The heart and soul of the operation lies in the wine cellar, which has been run by Gregor V for over 35 years. Through his passion, top quality products have been created in recent years, earning many awards.
"Our greatest concern is to always deliver the most honest and best quality to our customers, whether they are traders, restaurateurs, or wine-loving guests."
This passion, along with the commitment to quality, has been passed on to the next generation, who will continue to run the business as a family operation in the future.
Johanna Schup:
As the first daughter of the Schup winemaking family, she has been involved in the family business along with her brother since 2019.
Her passion for wine was inherited. Through her education at the Wine Academy (WSET) and internships in Burgundy, Nuits St. Georges with Francois Legros, she developed a special love for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Gregor Schup:
Gregor, already the VI of his generation, had no choice but to follow in the significant footsteps of his family.
As a perfect complement to Johanna’s experience in Burgundy, Gregor, after his education and initial practical experience at Schloss Gobelsburg, also went to France to one of the best wine regions in the world: Bordeaux.
Here, at Chateau Latour, as the first Austrian intern, he could further enrich his experience. The love for aged wines remained with both of them even after their time abroad, and the touch of French influences is still a hallmark of their wines.
A Special Focus on Quality
"Our main focus is to maintain the quality at the high level we are accustomed to. Currently, we are focusing on gastronomy. We place importance on being represented in establishments that share our passion. Through product training and regular exchange, we ensure that the philosophy of our family and wines is passed on to the guests. It is important to us to know and fulfill our customers' wishes and expectations – because tradition, respect for nature, and above all, love for the profession are reflected in our wines."
