Taferner

A new chapter began when Karoline Taferner joined the family business in 2015.

Her studies in viticulture and oenology at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna took her professionally to Australia and New Zealand.

With new ideas, approaches, and experiences, she now runs the winery together with her father Franz.

Karoline is responsible for the winery's wines, export, and sales.

Our winery is located in the historically significant wine-growing region of Carnuntum, where the Romans planted the first vines over 2000 years ago.

In Carnuntum, on 836 hectares, probably the best red wines in Austria and wonderfully structured and expressive white wines are produced. Carnuntum stretches from the eastern edge of Vienna to the border with Slovakia, south of the Danube, which, with its surrounding floodplain forests, provides a cooling climate factor. The vineyards span three hilly landscapes: the Leitha Mountains, the Arbesthaler Hills, and the Hundsheim Mountains.

We filled our first bottles in 1988; today, we cultivate 25 hectares of vineyards organically and sustainably. Our vineyards are located in and around the small wine-growing village of Göttlesbrunn, on the terraced slopes of the Arbesthaler Hills.

They are exposed to the south and southeast. Our sites are dominated by clayey silt, sand, and gravel. Some slopes also feature loess deposits. Combined with the nearby Ellender Forest, which provides cool air, this results in a juicy, spicy, dense wine style. Red wines exhibit velvety fruitiness and incredible elegance.

Our wines are defined by a fine, dense, and rich body without heaviness and are always inspired by a touch of freshness.
