Salzl

At Salzl's, the passion for their white, red, and sweet wines is absolutely palpable. While a significant portion is devoted to red wine—particularly Zweigelt alongside other national and international varieties—the winery also offers a full spectrum of Burgenland wine culture at the highest level, from fresh and fruity to complex and mineral white wines, and noble sweet predicate wines.

As the address suggests, the modern winery is situated in a prime location. Gazing over the unparalleled natural landscape of the Neusiedler See-Seewinkel National Park in Austria's easternmost state, it becomes clear: both the vines and the people thrive in Illmitz.

Grandfather Heribert, father Josef, and son Christoph, along with their family, enjoy life here. The decision to pursue winemaking was a deliberate one for all three. They love their homeland and their calling.

Reflecting the warmth and expansiveness of the region in their wines is both a mission and a goal for the Salzl family. While the classic wines are aged in stainless steel tanks, the reserve wines mature in barrique barrels.

Winemaking here is not just a craft. It is joy, experience, and a delicate touch that guide the Salzl family to find the ideal balance for each variety and each vintage.

Countless hours of sunshine ensure unparalleled fruitiness and density. Even the globally rare Botrytis cinerea, a noble rot essential for producing sweet wines like Trockenbeerenauslesen, can be found around Lake Neusiedl.

With such a selection, it is hard to choose just one variety. Therefore, at Salzl's, all vines are carefully matched to the soils, climate, and locations and are developed according to their character. Rigorous selection and meticulous vineyard management are a given. The result is a high-quality and diverse range of wines where every palate is sure to find something delightful.
