A cuvée that reflects the unique interplay of Jois’s terroir, uniting the limestone-rich slopes of the Leithaberg with the moderating influence of the Neusiedlersee. The vineyards here grow on hard mica schist and compact limestone, soils that encourage deep root systems and naturally low yields, resulting in concentrated, character-driven fruit. Certified organic since 2000, Martin Pasler works with small berries, meticulous handwork, and a philosophy that lets each parcel express its individuality.
The blend of Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch pours into the glass with a velvety cherry-red color highlighted by gentle violet reflections. The nose opens with dark berry fruit—black cherry, mulberry, and blackberry—lifted by subtle hints of cedarwood and a delicate touch of cracked pepper. On the palate, the fruit remains vibrant and precise, supported by well-balanced tannins that lend structure without heaviness. The finish is powerful yet elegant, marked by spice and a persistent, fruit-driven length.
Vinified in barrique, the wine gains depth, gentle toast, and roundness while preserving its fresh backbone. It is a cuvée shaped by patience, creativity, and a minimal-intervention approach that allows the wine’s natural energy to remain at the forefront.
For food pairing, it harmonizes beautifully with Andrew Bernard’s rustic-style roasted mushroom ragout or a slow-simmered bean stew with caramelized onions. For a non-vegan option, it pairs well with herb-crusted lamb or pan-seared duck breast, where the wine’s berry notes complement the richness of the dish.
