Deep, juicy, dark berry fruit with a delicate note of nougat and sweet cherry. Full body, powerful and elegant. Fine precious spices underlaid with cloves. Wonderfully concentrated, juicy, elegant and sweet with blackberries. Nougat in the aftertaste, fine acid structure with velvety tannins.
Hand picking and pre-selection in the vineyard. Optical sorting of the grapes at the winery. Natural temperature-controlled fermentation in open oak fermenters. 1/3 whole bunches added. Punch downs and pumpovers twice a day by hand. No pumping of the grapes or juice, only gravity. 24 Days on the grape skin, natural malolactic fermentation in 500L French and Austrian oak barrels. 18 months on full lees until bottling. Minimal sulphur addition.

Barren, gravelly and hot location. The natural vegetation consisted only of undergrowth and twigs - hence the name Bärnreiser.
On the upper slope fine quartz gravel, covered in places with clay silt and sand.
Very deep and calcareous soil that gives complexity to the wine.
