Kancellár Borbirtok
The Kancellár Borbirtok is one of the most exciting young wineries in the Somló (Nagy-Somló) wine region and has quickly built an excellent reputation. The estate was founded in the spring of 2014, when cultivation began on 11 hectares of land. The vineyards are located on the slopes of Somló Hill, on steep and difficult-to-work sites – challenging for the winemaker, but ideal for the vines and highly influential in shaping the character of the wines.
At the heart of the winery’s philosophy is the authentic expression of terroir. The volcanic soils impart a distinctive salty minerality, a firm structure, and remarkable depth to the wines. Rather than following trends, the estate focuses on presenting its origin in a pure and honest way – each bottle reflects the unique character of Somló.
Although the winery is young, the wines already show impressive maturity and precision. Feedback from both professionals and customers confirms that the estate is on the right path. Internationally, the winery has also proven its quality: at prestigious competitions – from Berlin to Brussels to London – it has earned numerous top awards.
In the cellar, the focus is on gentle processing and minimal intervention. The result is wines that are both powerful and elegant – structured, balanced, and layered. Minerality, fruit, and fine texture are in harmonious balance, defining the winery’s distinctive style.
