Heimann

The Heimann family has long been one of Hungary's leading red wine producers. Originally from Swabia, the family has lived in Szekszárd since 1758. Zoltán Heimann Sr and his wife Ágnes founded the winery in the early 1990s, returning to the family's farming roots. Their son Zoltán Jr joined them after studying in Geisenheim, Montpellier and Udine.

Zoltán Heimann Sr was named European Wine Expert of the Year in Baden-Württemberg in 2011, Person of the Year by Poland's Wino Magazin in 2017, and Hungary's “Winemakers' Winemaker” (Borászok Borásza) in 2023.

Heimann & Fiai (“Heimann & Sons”) is Zoltán Jr's line, dedicated to Szekszárd's indigenous varieties: delicate Kadarka and spicy Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch). Since 2005 the family has been selecting new Kadarka clones to secure the future of this almost forgotten grape. Heimann & Fiai is a member of the Szekszárd Bottle Community: only wines that pass the members' monthly blind tastings may be bottled in the Szekszárd bottle.

Terroir: The vineyards lie in the Szekszárd wine region, on the first slopes of the Transdanubian Hills. The soil is loess with lime concretions, in places with strips of red clay. Forests between the hills shelter the sites; the warmer sites open towards the Great Plain give ripe, mellow fruit with soft tannins and fine acidity. Key vineyards are Iván-völgy, Baranya-völgy, Porkoláb-völgy, Bati Kereszt and Csötönyi-völgy.

Organic: The estate has used no herbicides or synthetic fertilisers since 2014. The first certified organic grapes were harvested in 2023, and the whole estate has been certified since 2025.
