Barbár is the Heimann family's flagship wine – a powerful, distinctive blend refined over a decade and a half and named after Béla Bartók's piano piece “Allegro barbaro”. It is only made in vintages with perfectly ripe, healthy grapes.
Its backbone is the family's first own vineyards, planted in 2002 on the hilltop of Porkoláb-völgy with small-berried Bordeaux clones of Merlot and Cabernet. Part of it from the start: Basque Tannat for raw power and Kékfrankos for fine fruit and lightness – pioneering in 2006, now part of the zeitgeist.
2020 gave a small but beautifully ripe crop without excess. Thanks to gentle handling and ageing, Barbár shows fresh fruit and dried flowers alongside restrained oak notes. The 11th vintage is already in great shape: fine red berry fruit, light tea and floral notes – powerful and confident, with serious ageing potential.
