Holistic Kékfrankos 2020

This wine is one of the finest expressions of Kékfrankos, a significant grape variety of the Carpathian Basin. The greatness of this variety is not only demonstrated by the oak-aged, high-alcohol, heavyweight Kékfrankos known from Burgenland or Villány.

The secret of the Kékfrankos harvested from the Vári vineyard in Kéthely lies in the potential of the vines, the unadorned purism, and the patient winemaking. The low vine load, carefully selected grapes harvested in several rounds, partial whole cluster fermentation, extended maceration, 12 months of aging in ceramic, and lack of filtration contribute to the wine’s “natural” appeal.

Its color is ruby red. It greets us in the glass with a bright but not deep color. Our nose is captivated by a charming sweetness, vibrant floral-herbal fruitiness. Fresh plum, cherry, violet, and lavender – framed by a hint of saltiness and dustiness. A small amount of fine tannin is noticeable, turning silky in the mouth. Medium body, excellent elegance. The lively acidity characteristic of Kékfrankos and the aromas detected in the nose unite in a particularly long sip. It is a great choice to pair with paprika chicken, hard cheeses, or slightly chilled as a “conversation partner.”

Technology: Produced from selected harvest with low vine load. After skin fermentation, it was placed in 350-litre ceramic vessels and aged there for 12 months. The necessary micro-oxidation for red wine aging occurred here, and the vessels did not impart additional aromas, allowing the variety's aromas to prevail over barrel aging.
