Ein Sauvignon Blanc, den wir lieben

A Sauvignon Blanc we love

After helping with the harvest last year, Julia invited us to the tasting of the new vintages. In the cozy and friendly atmosphere of the family’s Buschenschank, on a pleasantly summery day, we had the chance to taste the new wines one by one, surrounded by friends, family members, and business partners.
We also had the opportunity to meet Julia’s brother, Andi, in person, who brought his wines from Illmitz. His wines turned out to be excellent as well.

We must admit, we’ve been a bit biased when it comes to Julia’s wines, ever since our very first encounter. And after having helped the grapes find their way into the bottle, our connection to these wines – and to the family – has grown even stronger.

Of course, all the wines we tasted that day were fantastic. The Zweigelt Rosé, the new Gemischter Satz, the Zweigelt – each offered an exceptional experience.
But somehow, when it came to the Sauvignon Blanc, we couldn’t believe our senses. Personally, Sauvignon Blanc was never my favorite grape variety. Until now.
So, we asked Julia: what makes this wine so special? She answered with her usual kindness, humility, and professionalism:

“The Sauvignon Blanc stands out for its elegance and acidity. For this variety, the right canopy management in the vineyard is essential. Too much sun would lead to the wrong style, which is why we focus on targeted, manual leaf thinning – carefully removing just the right amount of leaves around the grape zone to ensure good shade and, at the same time, proper ventilation.”

The hand-picked, carefully selected and pressed grapes were gently fermented in stainless steel tanks under Julia’s attentive care.

We’ve tasted good Sauvignon Blancs before – but this one is outstanding.
It’s a must-have for the shelf, but more importantly, it belongs in the glass.
Perhaps its only flaw: the bottle gets empty far too quickly.
